Mouldy silicone out, a clean seal back in
Old silicone cut out, joints cleaned and resealed with mould-resistant product — one of the fastest ways to freshen a bathroom.
What’s involved
Silicone is a movement joint, not decoration — it's what allows a shower screen, benchtop or floor-to-wall junction to flex without cracking the tile or grout next to it. Once it goes black or comes away, it stops doing that job and lets water behind the tile.
We cut out the old bead completely, clean and dry the joint, then apply a fresh mould-resistant silicone with a clean, consistent line.
Where we reseal
Common questions
Will resealing fix black mould behind the silicone?
Resealing addresses the joint itself. If mould has spread into the wall cavity, we'll flag it and recommend further investigation.
How long until I can use the shower again?
We recommend leaving new silicone to cure for 24 hours before getting it wet.
Is this a sign of a bigger waterproofing problem?
Not usually — silicone is a wear item that needs periodic replacement. We'll tell you if we see signs of anything more serious.
